Actually, I suspect the "hacker forums" on the public internet are actually some kind of honeypot -- set up by white hats to monitor bad guys...

I have always been of the same idea, that hackers, or real hackers use private networks to do their work. I wouldn't know how hackers networks work, but I think you are right assuming it's perhaps more expensive to use private networks since they have to comply to a series of requisities for the job to be completed safely.

It's strange that "hackerboards" exist on public internet domains.. I'd have assumed that "real" hackers would use private networks -- but I suppose that is more expensive for bad guys on shoestring budgets?
